What Does Octane Rating Mean?
The octane rating is the level of a gasoline’s ability to resist “ping” or “knock” during combustion. As the octane rating gets higher, an engine’s resistance to ping or knock increases. Check your owner’s manual to see if your vehicle would benefit from gas with a higher rating.
Octane 87 (Exxon & Mobil Regular Unleaded)
This is one of the most popular fuels, designed to meet the requirements of most vehicles.
Octane 89 (Exxon Plus & Mobile Special Unleaded)
This was developed to meet the requirements of vehicles designed to run on a high octane rating.
Octane 91-93 (Exxon Supreme & Mobil+ Unleaded)
This gasoline was developed to meet the demands of the most advanced engines.
