For a special and sensory experience, it’s hard to beat the aroma and atmosphere of a top-class coffee shop with its range of the best coffee beans and blends from around the world and knowledgeable baristas. However, the reality is that many of us will drink lots of our coffee under less than ideal circumstances and at odd times of the day.
Sometimes the best coffee is found in the simplest places. Just think of being on that long road trip with plenty of miles behind you and plenty of miles still to go. When the car’s tank is running low and your energy level is not far behind, it’s time for a fill-up for both of you.
Problem – it’s late at night and there are no coffee shops open. Simple solution to solve both problems – find a gas station that includes an all-hours convenience store. With the retail industry growing in size and sophistication there are many more options than the dodgy, dirty run-down pit stops often portrayed by Hollywood. On all major routes as well as along many secondary routes and in smaller towns, there are decent facilities to be found if you look carefully and don’t simply stop at the first place you see.
Most of the better gas station convenience stores now include well-stocked and clean coffee bars with a variety of options when it comes to brew, flavors, creamers etc.
Another good tip is to look in the refrigerator section. More and more diverse and good quality pre-packaged iced coffees are available than in the past. Hot or cold, if you pick your stop carefully you can get that caffeine top up while at the same time as your car gets a gas top up.
